The spiritual culmination of Ramadan is Laylatul Qadr ‘The Night of Power’ which also marks when the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Although we do not know for certain which day this is, the Prophet Muhammad has suggested that it is one of the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. It is believed that during these nights Allahs mercy and compassion is overflowing and that all sins are forgiven. It is also believed that every dua is accepted and that many angels, including the angel Gabriel descend from the heavens into our world. It can be understood that our world is crowded by celestial beings during this time which reflects the magnitude and value of this night. On this night Allah opens the doors of His mercy and magnifies every good action as the Quran states that “laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand months” (97:3).
