Decluttering Your Mind

Decluttering Your Mind

In our last post we explored how best to declutter our homes for the new season or the arrival of a new baby. Now we will focus on our mind as this goes hand in hand with our environment and by doing so, we can reflect on how best to help our mental wellbeing.

Just like your home, your mind can also get exhausted with constant clutter and the noise that surrounds us from the universe. This is especially true if you are pregnant or a mother as we have many responsibilities to think about. Our environment is constantly being channelled by what we absorb on social media and this constant feed of information or comparison to other people’s lives can be dangerously overwhelming. So how cam we best help ourselves to calm our minds and find clarity in our day-to-day life.

Breathe. When moments get too difficult find time to focus on your breathing to calm yourself down. Be conscious of your breathing by thinking of yourself breathing the bad energy out of you and visualise this as the colour red. When you breathe in think of the colour blue to instil a sense of tranquillity inside you. Think about the life that Allah has breathed into you and how this moment will pass. Breathing is also an excellent way to prepare for childbirth or to relieve yourself from anxiety and panic.

Clarity. Think about what you want to achieve in your day or week and be realistic of your goals. Plan your day or week so you can be more productive. Get into the habit of checking in with yourself. You can try journaling your thought for a few minutes in the morning or at the end of a long day. But you can also do it whilst you are preparing breakfast or driving into work. By organising our day and reflecting on how we feel we can achieve most of the energy we have.

Pause. As women we tend to prioritise everyone else around us and forget about our own needs. Make it your own responsibility to schedule time for yourself. Step away from social media by deactivating or deleting the app for a while to shut the background noise of the world. Say no to commitments if you do have the energy or time to fit it into your schedule. Instead find time for your own self-care that can look like better sleep, food you enjoy, stretching through a yoga class or a project that helps your own mental health.
