Getting the house ready for baby

Your pregnancy may bring about some strong nesting feelings. Don’t overwhelm yourself with a long list but work your way slowly though your house to declutter and make room for new baby items. This is a good time to refresh your home.
  • Start imagining what your home will look like once the baby has arrived. Often consumerism tells us that we need a lot of items for the baby and although many of them may look cute or are useful, try to be practical with the space you have. Your baby doesn’t need as much space as you think so whether they have their own nursery or a corner of your bedroom it is absolutely fine, and you do not need to put pressure on yourself.
  • We understand the excitement and pressures that come with the arrival of a new baby. If this is your first or you’ve already been through this journey there are a few things to think about that will help you prepare your home.
  • Find some space to put your babies’ crib/Moses basket (most babies will not sleep in a cot the first few weeks or months) and some room for your baby’s clothes and other essential items. This could be in their own nursery or section of your wardrobe, whatever works well for your space.
  • Time to clean the house. Make sure shoes are left at the door, windows are open for air flow and dust and germs are and are cleaned away. It’s a good idea to get into the habit of having a clean home for the baby’s arrival as new-borns can be prone to get getting ill. That doesn’t mean you should exhaust yourself and you try to delegate tasks to those around you as much as possible.
  • If you are working with a smaller space then think about storage solutions like shelves, wall hanging storage or boxes. Having baby items organised in different sections will make it easier for you to find something when you’re in a hurry.
